Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 28
Key Verse: King Saul asked the LORD what he should do, but the LORD refused to answer him, either by dreams or by sacred lots or by the prophets. 1 Samuel 28:6
Have you stayed somewhere and had no mobile phone reception. We live in a world where we believe we must be contactable 24/7. We become frustrated when we cannot send emails, check our text messages or make calls.
As believers, we have all had an occasion when we earnestly seek God, yet He appears silent. How do we respond when God seems out-of-reach?
One of the first things is to examining our life. Psalm 66:18 says, “If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened” This was absolutely the case with Saul. In 1 Samuel 28, King Saul is so utterly out of touch with God that he sought the help of a witch to contact the dead. Saul disobedience had separated him from God, but rather than repent, he choose what he deemed the easy option.
What a foolish thing to do. We can never substitute God’s direction with something else. Even some Christians turn to horoscopes, agony aunt’s advice columns and modern philosophies rather than waiting on God.
After we have confessed the sin our life, we should wait patiently and listen carefully to God. Sometimes when we say, ‘God is not speaking to me.” What we mean is, “God is not saying what I want Him to say.” We must not forget God is constantly communicating with us through His Word. The Bible is full of answers, but if we are neglecting to read God’s Word, is there any wonder we are not hearing him speak.
