Today’s Reading: Joshua 22:21-23:16 (additional reading Psalm 89:14-37 and Proverbs 13:17-19)
Key Verse: “Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the Lord your God fights for you, just as he has promised.” Joshua 23:10
Often we are overwhelmed by a sense of personal insignificance. Often we can feel like an expendable commodity. We feel a sense of complete uselessness believing “I am just one–and what can just one do?” But we need to understand God can use us if we will let Him. Helen Keller said, “”I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”
In today’s reading, we are reminded about the power that one person has through a relationship with God, Joshua 23:10 says: ‘Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the Lord your God fights for you, just as he has promised’.
Throughout Scripture, we find example after example of the power of one.
One little Boy was instrumental in feeding 5000 (John 6:9-13). We can learn a big lesson from this boy.
- God uses what you have to fill a need, which you could never have filled.
- God uses where you are to take you where you could never have gone.
- God uses what you can do to accomplish what you could never have done.
- God uses who you are to let you become who you could never have been.
One little Girl was instrumental in healing a world military leader (2 Kings 5:1-3) “Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.”
One Woman –was instrumental in saving a nation “(Esther 4:14). “ “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
One Man was instrumental in saving mankind from extinction (Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”)
One person with God is always the Majority.
- What do you feel unable to do alone?
- How does it make you feel to know that you are not along but that God is with you?
Father, Thank You that You are always with us and that You empower us. Help us to be faithful in doing the things you show us and trust that You will more than makeup for anything we lack. In Jesus’ name, Amen
