The Church that made God sick

Today’s Reading: Revelation 3:7-22

Key Verse: “I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold; you’re not hot – far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit.” (Revelation 3:16 MSG)

Can you imagine being remembered in history as the Church that made God sick? This letter to church at Laodicea is one of the most arresting proclamations that ever came from Christ’s lips.

The Laodicea church prided themselves on not just being Christians but being a superior grade of Christians.

Yet sadly when Christ addresses He says he hates their lukewarmness. In the midst of their satisfaction, they had lost their earnestness for God and his direction for their church!  Their forward progress had stopped! They had climbed as high up the spiritual mountain as they wanted to climb! They had learned as much about God and his holiness as they wanted to learn! They thought they had made it.

And God looked at them and said ““I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold; you’re not hot – far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit.”

Let us be extra careful that we don’t come to God with a lukewarm attitude.
