Key verses: “A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” Luke 1:39-41
When we gather with family at Christmas, it’s an amazing feeling. But after a few short days together, we start to remember all those things that get on our nerves. Often, we can manage a couple of days over Christmas, but then we are glad to go home.
Mary’s cousin was Elizbeth, and her husband, Zechariah. When Mary found out she was expecting Jesus, she visited Elizbeth for three months. I can imagine the two of them talking about God’s plans for their sons, Jesus and John the Baptist. These were great days. Both women were miraculously expecting sons. It is a wonderful thing to share with others what great things God is doing.
Have you shared the gospel with anyone recently? Has God answered a specific prayer? What is God teaching you through His Word? Share with others. God commanded that his people encourage each other because he knows we need it. We live in a broken world where everything calls us toward selfishness and despair. Sin steals out joy and when encouragement is missing God’s people can feel unloved, unimportant, useless, and forgotten. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”
Pray for God to make you an encourager. Share with others today how God is working in your life.
