It is one thing to plan for 2016, it is another to ACT.
What are some of the things that God has placed on your heart to do? Maybe last year God spoke to you about starting a ministry, writing a book, mentioning someone, taking better care of your health or finances etc, but for whatever reason you didn’t act upon that promoting. Proverbs 28:14 tells us “Always obey the Lord, and you will be happy. If you are stubborn, you will be ruined.” ( GNB)
Obedience and stubbornness are two sides of the same coin. Obedience brings joy, but our stubbornness makes us miserable. If you want 2016 to be a year of joy; act! If you want it to be miserable, just remain stubborn.
The first thing we need to do is Let go of excuses. Last year there were 100 reasons why we didn’t respond to God’s calling, and this year will be the same. Identify what’s making you feel frightened by the prospect of saying, “yes” to God when He calls you to help others. Is it a lack of training, strength, money, time, energy, confidence, or something else that’s causing you to hesitate? These maybe areas you need to strengthen over the next 12 months. Plan them into your 12-month schedule. Get more training by attending that conference or reading that book. Have more energy by going to bed earlier and eating better. But also recognize that those aren’t valid reasons to say “no” to God, because whenever God calls people to do something, He empowers them to do it.
Take the first step, and then keep walking wherever God leads you. Whenever God calls you, respond right away rather than waiting around. Pray immediately for the spiritual strength you need to take action, and then move forward, trusting God to guide and empower you. James 1:22 says, “Don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves”(NLT).
Start where you are and with what you have. Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 10:9-10 “Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day.”(MSG) If God is encouraging you to spend more quiet time with Him. Start now, you may not have 1 hour each morning but start now with 10 minutes. You may not have $1000 to support a missionary in Africa each month, but starting giving $10. You may not be able to open an orphanage, but you can help support a child.
