Key Verse:  But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.” Colossians 1:22

The people who work at the car body repair shop do amazing work. By replacing parts of the body of the car, pulling out dents, sanding, and priming and painting the car, they can take a car that has been in a wreck and make the car look like new again. The dents, the crushed metal, the bent bumpers, and the messed-up paint are all worked on until the car is restored to its pre-wreck state. The blemishes are all removed.

The work of God in salvation is even more wonderful. He does just fix us up, but He makes us totally new. We are not repaired wrecks. Paul says in Colossians 1:22 that we are “without blemish and free from accusation.” Is that because we have never made mistakes? Is that because we are perfect and sinless? Is that because we have never been in a wreck? No! It is because Jesus can take someone like me and you who has made plenty of mistakes, who is imperfect and sin-filled, and who has been in lots of wrecks and work in our heart and life so that all the evidence of the mistakes, sin, and wrecks are been removed.

After Christ, the master craftsman works on our hearts, He presents us to the Heavenly Father as blameless and perfect. The one without blemish, the perfect sacrificial Lamb, has taken all our sin on Himself on the cross of Calvary. In the place of the sin that He removes, Jesus places His righteousness in our lives. This great exchange of His perfection for our sin means that when God looks at us He sees the righteousness of Christ rather than our sin. We are presented without blemish and free from accusation. All the sin is removed. No one, not even the accuser Satan himself, can make an accusation against us. We are completely blameless before a holy God.

Standing before God without a blemish is made possible only by Jesus dying on the cross. Our response of being blameless is not pride in who we are but gratefulness in who Christ is and what He has done for us. In God’s eyes, we are holy, without blemish, perfect. Jesus has taken our hearts and lives and exchanged them with His own. What a joy to be made blameless!
