Key Verses: “having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:14-15
My favourite song as a child in Sunday school was “I’m in the Lord’s Army.” We would each pretend to be soldiers marching around the church hall and using our fingers to shoot in the cavalry. We would spread our arms wide apart, and for a few moments became fighter jets ready to zoom over the enemy. The idea of serving in the Lord’s army thrilled us.
As children, we often have a glamorous view of war. Boy’s love toy guns, bow and arrows, army costumes, toy soldier, tanks and anything else that shoots and blows things up. But, our view quickly changes as we experience real life. We appreciate the terrible realities of war on a humanitarian level. Furthermore, we begin to realise how injured our everyday battles often leave us. In truth, we will try just about anything to avoid conflict of any sorts.
Three times in Scripture, Satan is called “the ruler of this world.” Jesus referred to him as such in (John 12:31). The Bible is clear, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12.
1 John 3:8 tell us, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”
There are times when the battles we have seem to overwhelm us and victory seems impossible. When this happens, we need to stop and remind ourselves; Christ has already defeated the enemy, He has already won the final battle!!
No matter the prison holding us, no matter what forces are wage war against us, we know the end is secure. On the cross, Jesus gained, won, and secured the victory forever.

Christ victory is not something which we are hoping will happen sometime in the future. We are already safe in the finished work of Christ. Jesus crushed the head of the enemy and fulfilled Genesis 3:15.
