Today’s Reading: Joshua 13:1-14:15 (additional reading Psalm 85:1-13 and Proverbs 13:7-8)

Key Verse: “Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.” Joshua 14:13

Caleb held onto a dream for a long time. For 45 years Caleb had been dreaming of this land that God promised to him. So now, in today’s reading he is 85 years old, he steps up and says, “I want what God has promised me. See that hill country? I want it.” He had dreamed about it for so many years, and now it was time for his dream to come true.

A few years ago a study was made of 200 people that we would call “very successful.” It was discovered that all 200 had one common denominator: each had dared to dream big dreams, set goals, and reach out to achieve those goals.

The apostle Paul dared to believe the vision God gave him of a world where all mankind would hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though he was persecuted and beaten, shipwrecked and imprisoned, Paul kept on following the vision God placed in his heart.

Martin Luther dared to believe in a church where the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ could be preached freely, and common people could hear and understand the message of the Bible. And before he died, millions of people were able to have the Bible in their own language, to read and study it for themselves.

Maybe we need to have a bigger vision, too? As the church, we need to see the greatness of our potential and the possibilities that God sets before us.”How big is our vision? And what are we going to do about it?”

Caleb was 85, so your never too old, and your never too young either. God enabled the apostles, armed with the Gospel, to overcome the Roman Empire and transform the world and I’m convinced that He will help us, too,

  • What dreams/visions has God placed in your heart?
  • What is holding you back from acting on them?
  • How can you trust that God will empower you?

Father, Thank You for including us in Your work. Help us to follow the dreams and visions You place in our hearts and to follow believing that You will enable us. Thank You that where You call You also empower. In Jesus’ name, Amen
