Today’s Reading: Joshua 2
Key Verse: But someone told the king of Jericho, “Some Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.” – Joshua 2:2
God promised Joshua victory wherever he set his foot. So, Joshua gets busy and sends two spies to look over the land, and especially the city of Jericho.
Joshua did not send the spies because he doubted God would be able to give him victory. He sent out spies because he wanted to be obedient. Joshua was giving God the opportunity to grant him victory and God surprised him with a miraculous ending.
Sometimes the right thing for us to do is the thing that makes the most sense. God gave us the ability to make decisions. Trust means we are active in our obedience, making plans and starting to do the things God has empowered us to do.
For example, if God has called you to go to Asia on missions, there is no excuse to sit around saying, “I don’t know how to go or with which missionary organization.” God has given you the ability to research and make decisions. You can search for short-term mission trips, attend a missions conference, speak to missionaries who are working in Asia.
If God has told you what to do, it is time for you to act and along the way. you will learn God is abundantly able through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).
What has God been calling you to do? What is the next step you need to take to be obedient?
