Key Verse: Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. 1 Kings 8:27
What an astonishing concept infinity is! Our human brains can only scratch the surface of what infinity means, and even the greatest minds are simply baffled by the notion. The reason infinity is so hard for us to grasp is that because everything in our world has a beginning and an end. We are born, and within a few short time, our life is over. James 4 says our lives are ‘as a vapour.’ Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us, everything is bound by time, and there is a time for everything here on Earth.
Nevertheless, we worship a God who is infinite. This means space and time do not restrict Him. He exists beyond the universe and any limitations. He is not constrained by the past, the present, or the future. His ability is without end. His knowledge has no boundaries. His presence is everywhere.
The Bible also gives us other words that sum up this idea such as eternal and everlasting. Psalm 103 declares God is ‘from everlasting to everlasting.‘ God had no beginning and will have no end.
How amazing to think that not only is God infinite and eternal but even before He created time and space, God planned eternity for us. Ephesians 1:4 teaches “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” Furthermore, Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has planted eternity in the human heart.” There is something about eternity, which all people long for, even while they may not fully grasp it.
God’s eternal Nature is paramount to us because it guarantees that God will always be there for us. Whenever we need Him, no matter when we are troubled, our eternal God will always be there for us.
All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen – 1 Timothy 1:17
