Key Verse: Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created. – Psalms 119:90
There are many hymns and songs based on God’s faithfulness. Since a child, I can remember singing the wonderful hymn by Thomas Chisholm “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” The words of this hymn become all the more potent when we discover that Thomas Chisholm was a man who suffered from poor health for many painful years.
God declared of Himself to Moses that He abounds in faithfulness (See Exodus 34:6). God’s faithfulness is seen through Scripture and throughout the ages. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 89:8 “Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.” Psalm 36:5 further says “Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” God’s faithfulness is limitless.
Our present situation does not determine God’s faithfulness. Yes, God is faithful when we are healthy, wealthy and everything is going fine, but He is also faithful when we find ourselves in difficult circumstances. Stop for a moment and remember a situation where it seemed that you were forgotten and everything was hopeless. Even when all hope was gone, God was still there, He sustained and upheld you because He is faithful.
- When your child is sick, God is still faithful.
- When you lose your job, God remains faithful.
- When the nation is at war, God is still faithful.
In life, so many people will let us down, but God will never. God means what he says and keeps his promises at all times. God is faithful to keep every promise He has ever made. Think about the enormity of that statement. The Bible contains thousands of promises from God, relating to every possible circumstance we could ever face. These promises are not empty religious claims, but promises made by a faithful God who always keeps His word.
Whatever we face in life, God is faithful to sustains us. 1 Corinthians 1:8-9 says, “He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
