Key Verse: “Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted (Job 36:26 NLT).

For the past thirty days, we have been looking at the Attributes of God in order to gain a better understand of who God is.  Everything we know about God, we are aware of because He has chosen to reveal Himself to us in that way. We as humans are simply not smart enough to figure God out and determine what He is like. Every truth we can learn about God comes as a direct result of Him revealing to us that specific characteristic of His nature.

As much as God has shown us about Himself in His Word, we also must become comfortable with the realization that we will never fully understand the fullness of God. He is bigger, smarter, stronger, holier, and more awesome than our finite minds can fully grasp. Job 36:26 says “Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted.”

There is always going to be some mystery to God. His love is enormous and inescapable. His grace is amazing and immeasurable. His might is unstoppable and overwhelming. How can God be working around the world doing great and mighty things and still hear our single, heartfelt personal prayer? He can because He is God. How can He keep the planets in orbit, the sun shining brightly, and the earth rotating while also ensuring that we cross paths with the person He wants us to share His love with? He can because He is God.

My prayer is that these devotions have helped you discover how God has revealed Himself to us, but we must realize we will never know everything there is to know about God until we get to heaven. We must come to the place where we accept the realization that there is more to God than we will know. He has shown us much, but there is always more.

By the way, that is a great thing. If God were simple enough for our minds to grasp fully, He would not be a great God. As we grow in the Lord, we learn to be comfortable with the truth that in some ways God will always be a mystery and thank Him for the many ways He has chosen to reveal Himself. How ever much you know God today, seek Him more and more, He loves to reveal more of Himself to us.

I really hope that you have been blessed by the devotions this past month. Tomorrow we will begin a new series together looking at our new identity in Christ. If you missed any of this month’s devotions on the Attributes of God you can view them here. I hope soon also to put them all together into a downloadable pdf. Blessings, Jon
