Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 22:1-23:29 (additional reading: Psalm 115:1-18 and Proverbs 15:18-19)
1 Samuel 22:3 says: ‘And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto David; and he became captain over them, and there were with him about 400 men.
It is time to get up, shake it off, and go again. Sometimes we try to do something and things do not go as we expected. Sometimes it may be our fault, other times the idea just didn’t work. But we can give up on life because of failure. It’s time for us to stop beating our head against brick walls and to start again. Just rethink, refocus, and try again.
David took some outcast that nobody wanted and accomplished the work of God. If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and refuse to give in to panic, refuse bitterness, or refuse self-pity…THEN GOD CAN TURN THINGS AROUND.
Not only do we learn how to do things, we also learn some things not to do. There are times we must quit repeating the same mistakes over and over again and serve in the environment around us. How can we expect to do things the same old same old, and see a different result? David could have sat in a cave sulking and waiting for a divine event to make him king. But He looked around, He saw people in need of a leader and he served them. Clearly, these were not easy people to work with, but God didn’t call David to an easy life, but a faithful life.
Maybe of us are overlooking the things and people that God has given us, while we wait for the perfect environment. Yet, God is calling us to serve Him now, with what we have and what he has given us.
It time to stop looking at everything that is wrong and start doing things God’s way. These 400 men who were rejects to the world, but were people who God loved and used. No matter who you are, what you have done or what situation you find yourself in GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE. But also, when you see that person in the street who’s life looks a mess remember ‘ God has a plan for their life too’.
What have you given up on that you need to start over?
What things or which people have you overlooked but God has given you to serve with?
Father, Thank You for giving us second chances. Thank You for using us even while our lives are a mess and we have little to offer. Help us to serve You and encourage those around us to do the same. In Jesus’ name, Amen
