Today’s Reading: Leviticus 25:47-27:13 (additional reading Psalm 45:1-17 and Proverbs 10:22)
Key Verse: “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands.” Leviticus 26:3
How would you like to know the solution to never again get a traffic ticket? I have the answer, and what is even better it doesn’t cost a penny. The solution in three simple words is, “FOLLOW THE RULES.” It really is a simple as that!
God is a God of order. He created order out of Chaos. He spoke the universe into existence and when He created it he built in order. There is order in everything in creation. Gravity is a force, a law of order that God has put in place to benefit us all. God created gravity so that we could have an atmosphere, air to breathe, weather and dry land to live on. But, if we stupidly choose to ignore the law of gravity and step off a cliff what happens? The law of gravity doesn’t change and we hit the ground.
There is a price to pay when we violate God’s laws of nature, but also there is a price to pay when we violate God’s spiritual laws. Our reading today in Leviticus 26:3-25 talks all about this point. It is really clear from this passage, that if we do not obey God’s spiritual laws, like any loving father He will correct us. Why? Because He always wants what is best for us.
Jesus says in John 14:21 – “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”
When we drop something, we are not the slightest bit surprised that it falls to the ground, because we all know and accept the law of gravity. Why is it then that we accept God’s natural laws but ignore His spiritual laws. We need to remember that they are all in place for our benefit.
There are many peoples with a list of problems in their life and for many, the keys to unlocking these problems are the keys of obedience. Are you walking as Jesus did in complete obedience and loyalty to God? Follow the rules!
- Do you view God’s laws and restrictive or beneficial?
- When have you enforced a rule for the benefit of another?
- How do love and obedience walk hand in hand together?
Father, Thank You that You want what is best for our lives. Thank You that Your ways are so much better than our ways. Help us then trust in Your wisdom and purposes and to know that everything you command is for our God and Your glory, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
