Today’s Reading: Joshua 5:1-7:15 (additional reading Psalm 81:1-16 and Proverbs 13:1)
‘Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible. Then to accept the impossible, do without the indispensable, and bear the intolerant.’ Martin Luther
What’s standing in your way today? What’s holding you back? What’s keeping you from victory, from the promise, from following God? What is your Jericho? Jericho was perhaps the oldest city in the world and the Canaanites that inhabitation the city were a very sinful people. Every conceived act of immorality occurred behind those two enormous walls which were lined with soldiers and watchmen at every gate. 8.5 acres of land, two walls 15 ft apart. This was the huge obstacle that stood in the way of the children of Israel.
But where there is an obstacle of faith there is also the opportunity for obedience of faith. It is one thing to hear the word of God, it’s something else to obey. The children of Israel were to march around the walls once a day with all the armed men and do this for six days. On the seventh day, have seven priests carry trumpets in front of the ark march around the city seven times with the priests blowing the trumpets, so when you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpet, give a loud shout, and the wall will come tumbling down. This was a strange sight that looked more like a parade than an invasion but God had a formula they just had to have the faith!
Obedience of faith allows us to overcome by faith. Obedience is one of the signs of whether our worship is authentic. We may have the victory in Christ, but we will only be victorious against the spiritual strongholds if we fight by God’s plans and God’s strategy. God requirements were exact not more or less and the victory against Jericho was the result obedience of faith.
Someone once said that Faith is praying for rain and then going out with an umbrella. Whatever wall you may be facing in your life today, trust God for the victory, because the battle belongs to Him.
- What wall stands before you today?
- Is God asking you to overcome by doing something that doesn’t make sense in the natural?
- What steps of faith can you take to walk towards the promise?
Father, Thank You for speaking to us and showing us how to live and how to overcome. Thank You that You give the victory. Help us to show full obedience to You and to be willing to listen to what You are asking us to do. In Jesus’ name, Amen
