Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 1:1-2:25
For many years, I have been dreaming about ways in which God could move, projects that could be started and lives that could be transformed and I have considered myself a dreamer in many ways, as to many my dreams and plans would seem impossible. Yet, as I have begun to see my dreams unfold, I have been struck with the littleness of my dreams. Even those things that I think to be massive and almost impossible are easy for God.
As I see the ease in which dreams which God lay in my heart come to pass, I am in awe at how small my dreams have been in comparison to the Greatness of God. We must dream bigger because God is bigger than our dreams. In other words, there is no dream, no desire, no prayer, or no goal that is bigger than our awesome God! Matthew 9:29 says, “According to your faith, it will be done unto you.”
Elisha was a dreamer. He follows Elijah everywhere. Why? He had a dream of being like his mentor. Even when Elijah tries to turn him away Elisha stays put! He had a dream and he wasn’t going anywhere.
Today it may be that God is calling you to do something bigger than you can imagine yourself being able to do – an impossible dream. You may have been thinking for the last few weeks about what God wants you to do. For some of you, it may be a bigger thing than what you want to deal with. Big things almost always intimidate us. Often big things produce fear and even a paralyzing effect.
But we can learn from Elisha that God will empower you for that which He calls you and God will fill you with His Spirit and even give you a double portion of what was before.
