Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 10:32-12:21 (additional reading: Psalm 145:1-21 and Proverbs 18:1)

Jehoiada was a man who shows us the goal isn’t just to live a long life, but the quality is even more important than quantity. It’s going to take commitment, courage and quality of character in order to live long and to be filled with God, His life and His purpose for you.

Commitment – You cannot live long and well if you are not a committed person. And one of the most obvious examples of commitment is when a person can enter into is the covenant of marriage. 2 Kings 11:2 gives us the name of the Jehoiada’s wife: Jehosheba. Her name means: “Jehovah, her oath” or “worshipper of Jehovah.” Jehoiada and Jehosheba put their lives on the line for an infant. But they knew that this was the right thing to do. I’m sure they didn’t know what they were going to do later but they made a firm commitment to follow their spiritual instincts.

Courage – Every commitment you make will require courage to back it up. It was true with Jehoiada. In the seventh year Jehoiada showed his strength. 2 Chron 23:1 It is in this seventh year that Jehoiada executes his plan to bring back God’s king. Notice He showed courage at the correct time. It’s not courageous to be unwise, it’s foolish. It doesn’t help to use courage at the wrong time. God’s is as concerned about timing as He is about doing the right thing.

Character – Character is the quality that makes an individual. Decency, self-control, integrity in what we do and say – both publicly and privately, is evidence of Christ influence in your life. The more of Christ that shines through you the more of His kingdom is being established on earth. 2 Chron 24:15-22 describes to us how Jehoiada left a Godly example. How do you want to be remembered? What quality is your life displaying to those around you?

Father, Thank You for changing our lives. Help us to enjoy the life You want for us and to show commitment, courage and quality of character in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen
