Today’s Reading: Jeremiah 12:1-14:10 (additional reading: Psalm 79:1-13 and Proverbs 24:30-34 )

What puzzles me in life is why so many people live so badly. It’s not that everyone lives wickedly, although there are enough that do, but even those that don’t just seem so content with the ordinary, the mundane, the everyday grind.

Even those who are prominent in our culture leave little to admire and much less to imitate. Famous entertainers amuse a world for those who can’t entertain themselves and spoiled athletes play games for lazy spectators. If you’re content to just live life in the ordinary, then you’ll fit right in with the above but Jeremiah 13:23 says ‘Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots?’

The child of God, forgiven of their sins, has never been called to run with the chickens, but rather called to fly with the Eagles!!!! There is a God instilled hunger put within each of us that craves wholeness and freshness. It is a hunger for Righteousness! And Jesus said, Matthew 5:6 Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Jeremiah 12:5 “If racing against mere men makes you tired, how will you race against horses? Life was difficult for Jeremiah and God were asking “Are you going to quit at the first wave of opposition?” Are you going to retreat when you find that there is more to life than finding three meals a day and a dry place to sleep at night? Are you going to run home the minute you find that the mass of men and women are more interested in keeping their feet warm than in living at risk to the glory of God? Are you going to live cautiously or courageously?

It is easier to be a freeloader. Easier to be a leech. It is easier to relax in the embracing arms of the Average but easier, is not better. Easier is not more significant and easier is not more fulfilling. God has called you to a life of purpose far beyond what you think yourself capable of living and promised you adequate strength to fulfil the will of God for your life.

What is it you really want, do you want to shuffle along with this crowd, or run with the horses?”

Reflection

Are you living beyond the normal ways of the world?

Prayer

Father, Thank You that You call us to a higher purpose. Thank You that You call us to something bigger than ourselves and for the Kingdom. Help us to run the race before us, knowing that it is You who gives us strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen
