Today’s Reading: Zechariah 2:1-3:10 (additional reading: Psalm 141:1-10 & Proverbs 30:18-20)
To be limited is to be at the point, edge or line beyond which something cannot or may not proceed. Ask a man in a wheelchair to climb three flights of stairs and he will say, “I can’t do that” or ask a lady without eye sight to walk alone through your house and she will say, “I can’t do that” Why can’t these people perform the tasks you are asking them to perform? Because they are limited in what they can do.
What is keeping us from doing what God wants us to do? Personally: limitations; As a church: limitations, As a father/mother: limitations, As a boss/leader: limitations.
Zechariah sees a man who has a measuring line in his hand. That right there is our problem today. We have our own measuring lines that we are living by. If we are going to excel for Christ we must……; If this church is going to do everything that God wants we must…..; If you are going to find yourself and succeed you need to…;
If we are going to better the world around us……’ We have to let go of our measuring sticks and let God measure success. When we have measuring sticks or lines – we are limiting God in we allow Him to do for and through us.
We can be too quick in judging the things around us. We say that Kids – they will never change. The will never make it in life. Relationships – it will always be this way. Drug addicts, homosexuals, Alcoholics – they will never change. But where are we given God room to work?
We say that ‘our church’ is not like ‘that church’. This church has never had more then 200 members or we are no megachurch, we can’t feed the families in our community. For yourself you might be thinking ‘I’m no spring chicken, I can’t do these ‘young people things’ any more.
But let’s not forget what the Bible says about this – Philippians 4:13 – I can all things through Christ (Preach, Counsel, Lead a large congregation, Lead the church out of debt, Feed the poor, Help the drug addict……….
The world is full of limitations, but through Christ we live a limitless life, we can do everything that He calls us to.
