Yesterday we seen that the Holy Spirit empowers us to share Christ boldly. Today we will see that He alsoEMPOWERS US WHEN WE ARE WEAK.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8:26
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me… For when I am weak, then I am strong. – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Have you ever been lift some heavy objects, and your getting really tired, but then someone comes and helps you. They take the weight of the object and actually you’re almost just balancing the object, but they are doing the really hard work.
In a real sense, that is a picture of what the Holy Spirit does!
When we get to the end of our strength, the Holy Spirit is strong where we can not be strong and he can do that for you! He helps us and gives us power in our weakness.
Matthew Henry writes:
Though the infirmities of Christians are many and great, so that they would be overpowered if left to themselves, yet the Holy Spirit supports them. The Spirit, as an enlightening Spirit, teaches us what to pray for; as a sanctifying Spirit, works and stirs up praying graces; as a comforting Spirit, silences our fears, and helps us over all discouragements. The Holy Spirit is the spring of all desires toward God, which are often more than words can utter. The Spirit who searches the hearts, can perceive the mind and will of the spirit, the renewed mind, and advocates his cause. The Spirit makes intercession to God, and the enemy prevails not.
It doesn’t matter which area of our life the weakness is, if we are preaching but have a problem speaking. You may have a sin in your life that you just cannot overcome, but if you ask the Holy Spirit, where you are weak, he can be strong. Like we seen yesterday, we don’t need to keep trying to push our cars around with out own strength, but we can use the engine, so long we have been trying to do it ourselves, you have been working, saying I just can’t, I just, can’t! The Holy Spirit of God can give you power where you are weak. Call on him!
Look at what the Bible says, I love this; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, this was Paul and he was complaining about this thorn, “God, take it away, take it away, take it away!” And here is what God says; “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For where I am weak, then I am strong.” It is the power of the Holy Spirit that will give you power to share Christ boldly and give you power where you are weak.
