Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness. – Psalm 29:1-2
Psalm 29 is a reminder that we owe everything to the Lord! Everything we are and everything we ever hope one day to be, belongs to the Lord; all of the good we have ever done and ever will do is a result of God’s grace and goodness to us.
How different our lives would be if we began every day with that thought? How much pain and grief could we avoid if we actually took time at the start of each day meditating upon God’s goodness to us, and praising and glorifying His holy name? Rather, we often wake up with worries for the day, a full to-do list and stress.
We are called to give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name, and to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. To ascribe greatness to God is to declare the greatness of who He is. It is a call to declare strength and glory so that the world s made aware of how amazing our God is. He is the creator; by Him do all things exist. He sustains the whole universe. He sent His one and only Son to come and save us.
God calls us to praise His name and reveals Him. We honour the Lord as we worship in private and in churches, and as we proclaim Him goodness as we reach our communities with His love. We should be living in such a way that the people around us know that God is good. Charles Standley wrote: “By our attitudes, actions, and words, we have the privilege of revealing our loving Father to a world that desperately needs Him.”
We would do well to remember the words of 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Our motivation behind everything we do today should be for the glory of God.
