What characterizes your life? If your friends and acquaintances were to describe you in two words, what would they say? We are pretty good about excusing ourselves while judging others far more harshly, so that is not really a very easy question to answer. As Christians, we often set the bar way too low as far as our own tolerance for sin in our own lives. I wonder if the people think we are as good and we think we are.
Well, how about if you were to characterizes God? If you were going to use two words to describe God, what would come to your mind? There are a lot of words that come to mind. Love, Holy, Powerful, Lord and so on. As we read Psalm 25, David uses two words to describe God.
Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. – Psalm 25:8
God is good and upright and has instructed us how to live. As Christians, God has given us everything we need to live lives that are wholly committed to Him. First, He has provided payment for the debt of our sins, and has given us a place in His kingdom forever! Furthermore, He has sent the Holy Spirit to in within our hearts and to lead and guide us in the way we should go, and He has given us His Word to direct us in the way of mercy and truth.
How different would our world be today if we all as Christians determined to cast off the ways of the world, and, instead, wholly commit ourselves to living a Godly life characterized by good and upright? By His grace, let us lay aside all wickedness, envy, greed, anger, and all of the other traits that are so prevalent in the world in which we live and allow Him to change our lives.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
