If you have a dream, something God has put in your heart, then no matter how absurd or unlikely it may sound, it will happen

Today’s Reading: Genesis 16:1-18:15 (additional reading Psalm 7:1-17 and Proverbs 2:1-5)

Key Verse: So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Genesis 18:12

When God promised Sarah a miracle, her response was to laugh. She has heard some crazy things throughout her life, but to be celebrating her 90th birthday her bouncing baby boy was just too much for her.

Maybe you’ve laughed at God’s promises to you. When God says that all things will work for the good of those who love Him and called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28), you laugh and say, “Hah, how can any good come from this!”

God made an absurd promise made to Sarah from an earthly viewpoint. What made it even more laughable to her is that this was the one dream she has always had, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried to have a child in her younger age.

Sometimes the more we want something, the more we dream about it, the more unlikely we beginning to think it will ever come true. Possibly you have a dream, something that you want to do for God’s kingdom. Maybe it’s your dream to see a person you love brought to Christ, but now you think it will never happen, they are to far gone, I’ve been praying about this for years. For Sarai, it had been 24 years since Abraham first heard the promise from God that he was going to be a father. Those long years of trying had destroyed any hope there once was.

If you have a dream, something God has put in your heart, then no matter how absurd or unlikely it may sound, it will happen. No matter how impossible it seems or how little hope we may have left, God will keep His Word.

1) Never forget God is faithful and able to fulfil every promise He has made. (Read 2 Cor 1:20 and Romans 4:18-21).

2) Recognize that your limitations do not limit God. (Read Eph 3:20, and Phil 4:13) Sarai was too old, David too young, Moses couldn’t speak and Paul hated the church, but God used them all.

Nothing is impossible with God. You may be in an impossible situation right now with no apparent hope of it getting better, but God can do the impossible. Genesis 18:14 “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Hold onto His promises. He is faithful.

Reflection

  • Are there promises from God that you first believed but have now begun to doubt?
  • What dreams has God put in your heart for this season?
  • How can you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness in every situation?

Prayer

Father, Thank You that You are a faithful God. Thank you that you answer all your promises in the perfect time. Help Us today to trust more in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
